Founded in 1985, CONNECT was formed to contribute to the economic development of San Diego by nurturing high-tech entrepreneurship by assisting them procure venture capital and other required resources. It also aims at facilitating interaction between the University and the business community and further developing San Diego's infrastructure. This is accomplished through educational and networking programs, practical business seminars and technology transfer illustrations, and international strategic and financing forums.
CONNECT's services are tailored to meet the varying needs of San Diego entrepreneurs at all stages of their business life cycles and growth starting from procuring venture capital. Since its inception, CONNECT has assisted more than 800 technology companies in San Diego. Its programs serve as a catalyst for the development and exchange of ideas, a forum to explore new business avenues and partnerships, and an opportunity to network with peers.
As a result of its success, the CONNECT San Diego model has been replicated in other cities and countries, including Scotland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and Taiwan. CONNECT is entirely self-supporting. It is supported through membership dues, course fees, and corporate underwriting for specific programs.
