Generate & ManiaTV Raise $6 & $5.5 Million in Funding

A new-media studio and talent agency, Generate has been able to procure $6 million in its first round of fundraising. The other investors in the first round were Velocity Interactive Group and MK Capital. The funds have been raised for a project to start new comedy series, like “LaQuisha” and “Knockers,” as also to increase its staff. The manpower could see an increase in the sales staff, business affairs in addition to legal staff, said Jordan Levin, CEO of Generate.

Furthermore, this money will help finance the new digital production and it includes the second installment of the popular Web series “Pink.” This show has been quite popular and drew about 4 million views in its first season, though during this time Generate had no part to play in it.

“We think it’s a concept that can extend beyond broadband,” said Mr. Levin “We are not shooting to be the highest volume supplier, but we want to be the highest-quality supplier of content.”

On another front, ManiaTV, an online comedy TV network based in Denver, has raised funds amounting to $5.5 million in its third or Series C round of funding. The third round was led by DAG Ventures, the others who co-led the round were  Benchmark Capital, the return backers Centennial Ventures and Intel Capital. Since late 2004, ManiaTV has raised around $23 million in total VC funding. The culmination of this round adds DAG Ventures to the studio’s roster of investors.
