A Thousand Oaks-based radio station, named “Jill FM” will move to Irvine, reports the Ventura County Star newspaper. KJHL-FM that broadcasts at 92.7 in the Conejo Valley as adult contemporary rock station Jill FM is slated to relocate to Orange County by late August or early September.

The station is relocating its main offices and studios to Irvine, however they are keeping a small office and auxiliary studio in the Conejo Valley with five people for producing commercials and broadcasting in emergencies, said Bob Visotcky, station’s marketing manager. The station is likely to employ about 25 people in Irvine.

Florida-based Amaturo Group Ltd. that owns and operates the station hopes moving the station from Thousand Oaks to Irvine will bring better ratings in an attempt to cover much of Los Angeles and Orange County from three outlying areas.

“We’re a lot less expensive than the L.A. stations, and that’s the attraction of Jill, you know, we’re in the money-burbs where the money’s being spent,” he said. “These people can buy us for almost a third of what they could buy time on an L.A. station for,” said Bob Visotcky.

Jill FM uses automated programming to play a mix of rock music aimed at women, but with the move the station intends to give it a live and local presence by hiring disc jockeys. Besides, it will offer advertising to retailers in the three smaller markets at lower prices than regional advertisers have to pay.

Formerly known as KNJO, the Thousand Oaks station was launched in 1963. Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax was one of its original owners. The Amaturo Group bought it in the mid-1990s.
