Quest Software’s Q2 Results

Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software Inc. has posted its second-quarter results on Tuesday which missed the analysts’ expectations. Shares of the company fell after it announced its earnings for the first half of the year. Quest Software is a leading enterprise systems management vendor, delivers innovative products that help organizations get more performance and productivity from their applications, databases, Windows infrastructure and virtual environments.

The company’s stock was down about 10 percent before recovering at close of trading on a recent market value of about $1.5 billion. (more…)

Advanced Medical Optics’ Shares Fall After Q2 Results

Shares of Santa Ana- based Advanced Medical Optics Inc. fell as much as 14 percent on Monday, after the company posted its second-quarter earnings. Although, they recovered midday. The company’s shares closed at 5 percent per share. Advanced Medical Optics is a maker of eye surgery devices and contact lens solutions.

In the second quarter of 2008,  AMO swung to $14.6 million in profit from a  $166.8 million loss last year, though failed to meet the analysts’ expectations of making $16.4 million. The net income for the quarter was $22 million, which included gains related to restructuring and a cross licensing deal. The market value of Advanced Medical is $1 billion. (more…)

Orange County’s Wealthiest People Estimated at $34.5 Billion

According to the Orange County Business Journal’s annual list of the wealthiest people, thirty-two people in Orange County account an estimated worth of $34.5 billion. Last year, the list comprised of twenty-eight people.

In 2007, the twenty-eight listed people accounted for an estimated worth of $33.5 billion. However, the addition of four wealthiest people increased the estimated worth to $34.5 billion.

Donald Bren holds nearly a third of the total wealth with about $10.5 billion. Bren is the owner of The Irvine Company. The Irvine Company is a privately held real estate investment company in Orange County. Don Bren is the son of producer Milt Bren and he grew up on Lido Isle. He has given away thousands of acres in Orange County to be used as parks and natural areas. He now lives on Harbor Island in Newport Beach, Orange County California. (more…)

First American Posts Profit In Q2

America’s largest provider of business information, First American Corp. posted a significant profit on its net income for the second quarter of 2008, as announced on Thursday. The figure even beats analyst’s expectation.

For the quarter ended June 30, the Santa Ana-based company reported a net income of $42 million, compared to a loss of $66 million during the same period a year ago. Analysts expected to earn about $37 million by the company.

Parker S. Kennedy, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of  The First American Corp. said,  “We are pleased by the performance of both the Financial Services and Information Solutions businesses in light of the current market environment,” “We are especially encouraged by the operating results within our Title Insurance segment. Clearly, these results reflect the hard work that began last year to restructure our Title operations and change our business model.
